Summary of Position

The Dean’s Advisory Board (DAB) is a multi-faceted resource for the Dean of the SHA and his/her senior staff. Members are appointed by the dean and provide insight on current events and practices in the hospitality industry, serve an important fundraising role, and help ensure that the School continues to meet the education and research needs of the world’s largest industry. Members may be asked to participate in classes/on panels where their special expertise will add to the academic experience. Members are asked to help students at the School with career decisions, including, where possible, by providing internships and fulltime career opportunities.

Prerequisites Members are asked to make gifts to the School’s Annual Fund and for capital projects as appropriate for their individual means and interests. Members are asked to help connect the School with corporate, foundation and individual prospective donors.

Off Campus Location: There are two meetings per year, one in Ithaca during the fall semester and one in New York during or shortly after the spring term. Members are asked to attend every meeting if possible, and at a minimum one meeting per year. Personal expenses for travel and accommodations will be the responsibility of individual members of the DAB.

Additional Attendance Requirements: Sub-committees of the DAB may be formed on an as-needed basis and are generally done via conference call or as a break-out during the full Board meetings.
