Summary of Position

The HEYA Council represents recent graduates of Human Ecology who act as liaisons between the College and young alumni through individual and collective outreach. They actively participate in alumni events and activities and bring news of the College to the attention of those in their network. The Council supports a wide representation of diverse perspectives and experiences that allows our organization to be most effective in achieving Human Ecology’s mission. We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in the Council and believe representation of BIPOC young alumni in the Council supports efforts to foster equitable experiences. We will continue to recruit a council that reflects the diversity of our alumni in all areas.

As representatives of the HEYA Council, members will send periodic communication to recent alumni and speak to young alumni at events by sharing information about the value of the alumni network, their post-graduate educational experiences, career path, philanthropy, and volunteer experiences. Candidates should demonstrate a professional level of writing skills; some presentation experience and/or willingness to speak to groups.

Council members may serve on or chair a committee to develop and initiate activities in coordination with Human Ecology Alumni Affairs & Development and support special projects as defined by the Council. Committee participation includes joining conference calls and staying in touch via email, providing activity updates, hosting events or providing event support, and providing follow-up reports. Candidates for this position should have some experience in group or team work, demonstrated some leadership experience, and indicate a desire to be an active member of the council.

Council members attend Human Ecology and Cornell alumni events as a representative of the University and the College and network with Human Ecology alumni to forge new and continued connections to the college; serve as an ambassador for the college by sharing information with current students and recent graduates about how they can stay involved and engaged with the College; assist with new council member orientation and mentorship; help identify future council members, volunteers for the college, donors, and prospective students. Candidates should indicate their loyalty to, and support of the college and Cornell; a desire to give back; and a level of understanding of alumni engagement.
