The Board president presides at all meetings of the HEAA Board and the Executive Committee. The president appoints officers for the Executive Committee and teams established by the board; proposes special committees as needed; serves as Chair of the Nominations/ Elections; is a representative on the Dean’s Advisory Council, on the Board of the Cornell Alumni Federation and as past-president for the HEAA Board for two (2) years following expiration of term as President.

The president works closely with a staff member from the HEAA&D office, including every-other week phone calls; and oversees the HEAA Board Executive Committee which has monthly calls. The president is responsible for periodic communications with Human Ecology alumni collectively and individually. The president emcees the Association Annual Meeting held during the HE Reunion Breakfast during Cornell's Reunion weekend in June and provides an annual report to the College.

Strong leadership qualities and excellent meeting facilitation are expected of the president. The president is expected to encourage both individual and collective activity from board members. By managing expectations, maintains a balanced activity level of relevant and meaningful board programs that can be effectively run and have measurable outcomes. Oversees the HEAA Board Annual Personal Portfolios. The HEAA Board president has a representative seat on the HE Dean's Advisory Council which meets twice a year, once in NYC and once in Ithaca.

Attend Human Ecology and Cornell alumni events as a representative of the HEAA to forge new and continued alumni connections to the College. Serve as an ambassador for the HEAA by encouraging alumni involvement and engagement with fellow alumni, with the College and its students. Help develop future board leaders through mentorship, by example, and by assigning special projects. Assist with new board member orientation and help identify future board members, and current volunteers, donors, and prospective students for the College.
